I recently went on a hiking trip and visited the beautiful town of Cripple Creek, Colorado. After a long day, I stopped in a restaurant for a bite to eat. The first thing I saw on the menu was “The Famous Black Cow” and instantly was curious. Minutes later I received a HUGE frosty glass mug filled with homemade vanilla ice cream and fizzy root beer spilling over the edges. I then learned that the root beer float was created right here in town and was originally named “The Black Cow,” inspired by the snowy peaks on Colorado’s Cow Mountain which looked like ice cream floating in soda. I sat by the window in the restaurant with a happy belly full of fizzy root beer float as I watched the sun drop behind the Colorado mountains. What a great day!
